What Google Ads Scripts Should I be Using? (All Time Best Scripts)

Questions I get all the time:

Which are the best uses of Google Ads scripts?
What are the best scripts for Google Ads?
What AdWords scripts do you use most?
What is your favourite Google Ads script?

Sorry, no simple answer here. It’s a “how long is a piece of string question” and the only right answer is the infamous “it depends”.

But… I will give you a short list of scripts that will benefit almost every account I come across.

1) Broken Link Checker

Although I have many favorite scripts in my arsenal and they are all very useful there is one single clear winner for me. This is the script I install the first day when taking over a new account. It is also a great way to finally get started using Google Ads Scripts.

I’m talking about a script that automatically alerts me if any of my landers are broken: the Broken Link Checker script, published by our friends at Google.
For those interested, I’ve written a post on why I think this is the best Google Ads script that should be running in every account.

2) Negative Keyword Suggestions

Google’s keyword matching algorithms are far from perfect, change all the time, and continuously send irrelevant clicks from search terms that don’t convert.
Spending money on these clicks is a waste of budget. Adding poor-performing search terms as negatives prevents Google from wasting more money on these clicks.

This script suggests negative keywords for search terms that had a significant number of clicks, but little to none conversions.
If new negatives are suggested the negatives are reported via email.
The email contains a link to a Google Doc spreadsheet documenting all the negative keyword suggestions.

3) Negative Keyword Conflicts Check

Negative keywords are intended to prevent ads from showing on irrelevant search queries, but they may inadvertently block normal keywords from matching relevant search queries, making your campaigns less effective.

It’s very easy to make mistakes with negatives. It happens to me all the time.
You don’t want to miss opportunities to grow your revenues, so use this script to warn you about any conflicts that may appear!

4) Search Query Mining Tool

Discover potential new keywords and negative candidates based on your search term data. With this script, the mundane task of sifting through your search query reports feels like a breeze.

5) Trending Search Terms Report

it’s important to constantly stay up-to-date with any dramatic changes in search behavior and search volume for specific search terms, especially new ones that might show up.

That’s what my trending search terms script aims to do, by exporting a Trending Search Terms report to Google Sheets. The report contains a list of search terms with a large increase or drop in impressions, when compared to the previous week and the previous year.

With this data in hand, you can easily see whether a specific search term needs to be negated or replaced since it’s not performing as well as it used to. Or if you should look into adding more keywords that are on the rise to your campaign.

Don’t waste these opportunities and try at least one of these scripts right now!
You will reap the benefits within 30 mins. Just follow these steps to get started.

NOTE: Since every Google Ads account is different, with different optimization needs, different accounts benefit the most from different scripts.
