{"id":138,"date":"2023-08-24T20:38:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T18:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nilsrooijmans.com\/daily\/?p=138"},"modified":"2023-11-24T04:53:58","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T03:53:58","slug":"landing-page-checklist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nilsrooijmans.com\/daily\/landing-page-checklist","title":{"rendered":"Landing Page Checklist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last two years I&#8217;ve been lucky enough to be part of God Tier Ads, hosted by Ed Leake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ed and I share a passion for sharing the knowledge of PPC professionals.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We both agreed, PPC Pros look beyond what is visible in the Google Ads interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So we decided I should share some of Ed&#8217;s insights on landing page design with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s Ed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<em>Questions to ask yourself before creating your page:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Who is my ideal customer?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>What problem do they have?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Without your product\/service what would they be doing?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>How is your product\/service unique?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>What do you want them to do on your landing page?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><br>Page Structure (above the fold)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Headline focused on benefits<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Product\/service example in image(s)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Fears addressed so visitors don&#8217;t just leave<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Call to action<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Social proof such as a testimonial or rating<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><em>Copywriting<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Plain simple language (no buzzwords)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Speak the language your prospects use<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Highlight pain &#8211; the current way, or before vs after<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Focus on the why and your USP<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Show benefits first, features come after<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><em>Call to action<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Focus on one goal<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>CTA is clear and contrasts with the page<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Optional: secondary CTA for those not yet ready to act<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Repeat primary CTA before site footer<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Optional: CTA in sticky-header menu so it&#8217;s always visible<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Use sub-text to address doubts near your CTA<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><em>Sign-up form\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Try to reduce form fields (ask for the bare minimum)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>For larger forms retarget people who part-complete sign up<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>If your form is larger, consider 2-steps<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ask low threat questions first, not contact details<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><em>\u00a0Performance\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Aim for a score of >90 on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagespeed.web.dev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/developers.google.com\/speed\/pagespeed\/insights\/<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><em>That\u2019s it!<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is this the most extensive checklist you&#8217;re going to find?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I like about it, and what discriminates Ed&#8217;s work from the rest, is that it gets you _thinking_ about what is _really_ important. Who is my ideal customer? What problem do they have? Without your product\/service, what would they be doing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list is concise, concrete, and actionable. Another thing Ed and I both appreciate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here&#8217;s my advice<\/strong>: next time you open your Google Ads interface,\u00a0navigate to Landing Pages,\u00a0sort by Cost desc,\u00a0open the top landing page,\u00a0and work your way through this checklist!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Nils<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ed actually has 7 more checks to level up your landing page.
